SPOTLIGHT

The ASM Biodefense and Emerging Diseases Research Meeting serves as a platform to help researchers and decision makers discuss solutions to prevent and contain dangerous infectious diseases.  The 2015 meeting will feature Hot Topic "On the Ground with Ebola Virus: Africa to North America" a review of the recent, sweeping outbreak of Ebola in West Africa.  Anthony S. Fauci, MD, and Heinz Feldmann, PhD, from NIAID, will present.  Join us Wednesday morning, February 11, to examine the impact of this infectious disease, and consider how we  can use the experience to develop a model for handling the public threat of bioterrorism.

Rose Gottemoeller, MA, U.S. Dept. of State will present "The National Strategy for Countering Biological Threats, Five Years On: Progress and Next Steps." The "Global Threats, Collaborative Solutions" session will be Monday, February 9 from 7:15 a.m. – 8:15 a.m.

Alternate Careers in Biodefense: Expanding the Horizons

Tuesday, February 10 | 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.

As traditional career opportunities in Biodefense such as bench and applied research narrow, an increasing number of highly qualified people are seeking alternate careers in which to utilize their training, skills and interests.  This workshop will feature presentations by and discussions with a number of scientifically trained individuals who have selected alternate careers. The participants will describe their training, post-graduate experiences and how they ultimately transitioned into non-traditional career paths.

The Program Committee for the ASM Biodefense Meeting invites you to submit your abstract for this year’s event in Washington, DC. ASM Biodefense and Emerging Diseases Research Meeting in the News!
The June issue of Microbe Magazine featured coverage of plant based biologics from the 2014 meeting. Read the article on the session, "The Modern Day Victory Garden: Advances In Plant Based Production of Biologics for Disease Countermeasures."
